Durga puja is celebrated in the honour of goddess durga to celebrate her annual home coming .It is observed by Bengali Hindu community .It is celebrated during the month of ashwin,shukla paksha .It is widely celebrated in the areas of West Bengal,Bihar,Assam,Tripura ,Odisha and Jharkhand .
Durga Puja is also known as “Akal bodhon” .It relates to lord Rama,defeating the demon Ravana ,who ruled as a king of the three worlds .He was blessed by Devi Parvati .Lord Rama,performed several offerings and did yagna with high morals for a just cause that he could defeat the demon . Due to this invoking of lord Rama of the goddess, in an uncustomary time to seek her blessing is now known as Durga Puja .
This festival symbolizes ” triumph of good over evil ” .It starts with the day of Mahalaya ,the first day of the battle when goddess Durga initiates the war with buffalo headed demon named Mahisasura .Mother Goddess begins her journey from kailash to her paternal home along with her children . Lord Ganesha,lord Kartick,goddess Lakshmi and goddess Saraswati .

The voice of the dhak specially arouses the feeling of the occasion .Aroma of the shivli flowers ,cultural dress worn and the dhunuchi dance .People rushing day in and night out adds to a completely different atmosphere and positivity within .Last day of the festival which is known as dashmi when the married ladies performs ” sindur khela ” and distributes sweets .During this time of the year friends ,family and relatives gets the opportunity to connect .The procession of the last day till the immersion of the idol at the holy Ganges biding goddess Durga with teary eyes waiting to see her soon next year again .
